Superior Water, Light & Power is working to replace lead water service lines to protect public health in Superior.
Money to help reduce the cost of service line replacements is available through federal grants. But a state law prevents privately owned utilities, including SWL&P customers, from accessing these funds—which are available to the residents of nearly every other city in the state.
Access to service line replacement funds would significantly offset the costs of lead service line replacement for Superior residents. A simple, straightforward change to this law would give Superior residents the same access to benefits as others in Wisconsin.
